Members of the Israel Defense Force exchanged artillery fire Sunday with members of the Hezbollah fundamentalist movement in the southern Lebanon security zone.

An Israeli soldier was lightly wounded by a missile during the exchange, Israel Television reported.

The clashes came as the IDF began an investigation into two recent Hezbollah attacks in southern Lebanon in which nine Israeli soldiers were killed.

In the second and more deadly attack Oct. 15, six Israeli soldiers were killed when their armored personnel carrier drove over a mine planted by Hezbollah guerrillas.

The army inquiry was attempting to determine from which level of command the order was given to drive the nonprotected vehicle along a dirt road.

According to standing IDF procedures, only specially protected vehicles are to be used on dirt roads, where explosive devices can be more easily concealed than on paved roads.
