Soviet authorities, apparently succumbing to international pressure, have announced that they will issue entry visas to an Israeli theatrical delegation to attend the congress of the International Theater Institute to be held in Moscow later this month.
The Russians had previously denied visas to the delegation of artists, directors and stage designers. They said they would grant only one visa to an Israeli–Yeshayahu Weinberg, director of Tel Aviv’s Chamber Theater who is a member of the ITI executive.
News of the reversal was relayed here today from the Paris headquarters of the ITI. It was learned that a number of countries had protested to Moscow over the exclusion of the Israelis and threatened to boycott the congress or demand its transfer to another site.
