Iro Mission Arrives in Italy to Negotiate Taking over Refugee Care Activities

Michael Shapiro, UNRRA chief in France and two staff members of the IRO Preparatory Commission arrived here today for a ten-day visit during which they will study refugee needs and negotiate with local UNRRA authorities, the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees and the Italian Government on the transfer of all refugee care activities to the IRO as of July 1. Meanwhile, it is learned that M.S. Keeny, who has been heading the UNRRA mission here, will be in charge of IRO operations at least through September.
