London-based writer and Holocaust denier David Irving has again announced his intention to obtain an Australian visa.
Irving, who has failed a number of times since 1992 to enter Australia, maintains that his views on Jews have kept him out of the country.
He was recently the subject of a ruling by the Australian Federal Court, which said former Immigration Minister Nick Bolkus had been legally correct in rejecting Irving’s application on the basis of his failure to meet “good character” requirements for Australian visas.
Irving is not eligible for an Australian visa unless he receives ministerial dispensation, but he publicly maintains that it is his views on “the traditional enemy” — that is, Jews in Australia and elsewhere — that have kept him out of Australia and caused his problems in other countries.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard last week publicly described Irving as “a nutter,” but has not commented on whether he would be granted a visa.
