Israel’s Ambassador Josef Tekoah accused the Syrian Government today of following a policy of “totalitarian ideologies, torture of Israeli prisoners, oppression of Syrian Jews and other Syrian minorities.”

In a letter to Secretary-General U Thant, replying to one sent previously to Mr. Thant by Syrian Ambassador George Tomeh, accusing Israel of “inhuman treatment of prisoners of war,” Mr. Tekoah said that Syria “masquerades as an advocate of human rights” and that its attitude “can evoke nothing but contempt.”
