Israel believed it was targeting a nuclear facility in Syria last month because it had a mole inside.
ABC News reported Friday that Israel has detailed photos taken by a spy inside of what they say was a nascent nuclear weapons facility. Israel bombed the target on Sept. 6 in a surprise raid.
ABC quoted a “senior U.S. official†as saying the Mossad security service either turned one of the facility’s workers or was able to insert a spy as an employee. The result, the official said, was many detailed pictures of the facility from the ground.
The facility was located in a secluded area about 100 miles from the Iraqi border and constructed in what the official called a North Korean design.
According to the ABC report, Israel urged the United States to attack, but the White House refused, saying it had no concrete proof that the facility was developing nuclear weapons.
