E. S. Shimron, an Israeli attorney, has been appointed as the Government’s counsel to cross-examine witnesses for Adolf Eichmann, who will be questioned in a German court. The witnesses are former Nazis whom Israel has refused to grant immunity from arrest here, after Eichmann’s defense counsel requested that they appear before the court.
Mr. Shimron will leave for Germany in time to attend the interrogation of the first of these witnesses, Dr. Eberhard von Thadden, the Nazi foreign office expert on Jewish questions. Von Thadden is scheduled to appear for questioning before a German judge at Neuss, Germany, on Thursday. Lists of questions to be asked the witnesses in Germany were sent to Bonn last week by the court here trying Eichmann.
In addition to von Thadden, the ex-Nazis to be questioned in Germany are Dr. Franz Six, who had been a Nazi officer in Russia; Hermann Krumey, former aide to Eichmann; and Max Merten, the former Nazi military governor at Salonika, Greece.
