Israel eased a closure on the territories as part of confidence-building gestures toward the Palestinians. In accordance with measures announced by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in his May 29 meeting with his Palestinian counterpart, Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz on Saturday night ordered the lifting of the total closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
