In the wake of resumption of diplomatic relations between Israel and the Soviet Union, the Jewish State has begun to expand her trade with the nations of the Soviet bloc.
Even as Shmuel Eliashiv, Israel Minister to Moscow, left for the USSR today, it was learned that Israel is purchasing 20,000 tons of wheat from the Soviet bloc. The deal, involving goods valued at $2,000,000, will be concluded within the next few days, it was learned. The wheat will be shipped to Israel from a Black Sea port. The deal was handled through the good offices of Finland which last month negotiated the sale of 5,000 tons of Bulgarian wheat to Israel.
It is understood here that the wheat deal is favorable to Israel, with prices lower than those on the world markets. Freight charges will be paid in dollars, the only cash involved in the transaction.
