Officials of the Ministry of Finance told newsmen today that the Minister, does not approve the idea of Israeli private investors purchasing the Shell Oil Company’s installations in this country.
Once again, Ministry sources charged that a private delegation which went to London last week to deal with Shell did so without Finance Ministry approval. There are grounds for the belief that the private group, representing both the Histadrut’s Solel Boneh industrial complex and private citizens, had outlined its intentions to Finance Minister Levi Eshkol before heading for London.
According to press reports here, Shell is demanding 2, 000, 000 pounds sterling ($5, 600, 000) for its installations and interests in Israel. This does not take into account the oil refinery in Haifa, whose fate has not yet been discussed.
