Recommendations by a government committee of civil servants that cigaret advertising be banned from radio programs and that cigaret packages carry health warnings similar to those required in the United States were reported yesterday by the Ministry of Health which said the proposals will be considered for legislative action.

The committee also recommended reducing government subsidies to Israeli tobacco growers and encouraging them to switch to less dangerous crops. Also proposed is a ban on persons shown smoking during television appearance. Israel does not carry advertising on its TV programs but if advertising is introduced, the committee said, a similar ban on cigaret advertising should be applied. The committee was named by Attorney General Meir Shangar. His deputy, Zeev Sheer, served as its chairman.
