Winds of near gale force caused floods and property damage in the coastal plain last night and this morning. Trees were uprooted, aerials were toppled, windows and shutters smashed and several bridges were made impassable for several hours. Fire brigades and police patrols worked through the night and morning until the storm subsided. There were no casualties. The rains swept all regions of the country and temperature plummeted down to zero. Frost was reported in the Golan and Mt. Hermon regions. In Jaffa, firemen had to evacuate more than 1500 spectators attending a variety show as the area around the hall was flooded. The entertainers remained on stage for hours until every member of the audience was evacuated.
