An appeal to the people of Israel to co-operate with the government in stamping out the black market was voiced here today by Dov Joseph, Minister of Food and Supply, in his first radio broadcast since his resumption of the Ministry.
In an analysis of the economic situation of the country, Mr. Joseph declared that it had deteriorated in the last year. For this, he held the black market responsible, insisting that the competition of the black market with the regular economy for materials in short supply had caused a devaluation of the currency of Israel. He expressed confidence that the country would recover with the assistance of the people in increasing agricultural and industrial production and in fighting the black market.
