Israel named the former chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Sallai Meridor, as its next ambassador to the United States. Meridor will succeed Daniel Ayalon when he wraps up his four-year tenure in Washington, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office announced Wednesday. The handover is expected to take place in January.
