The Israeli Charge d’Affaires in Sofia is negotiating with the Bulgarian authorities for Bulgarian Jews to emigrate to Israel via Turkey, it was learned here today.
The Bulgarian authorities have thus far refused to permit the Jews to leave via Turkey, although the Turkish Government has agreed at the request of the Jewish Agency, to permit them to move through Turkey. It is hoped that the current negotiations with Bulgarian authorities will result in permission to use this route and will enable the early migration of some 3,000 Bulgarian Jews.
