Jacob Shilo, an Israeli cartoonist, was declared here winner of the grand prize in the International Salon of Cartoonists. His winning drawing, given the top $5,000 prize, shows efforts being made to smuggle a man out of the Rome airport inside bass-violin cases.
The cartoon is a take-off on the unsuccessful Egyptian attempts to smuggle out of Rome last year a man charged with being a spy for Israel. The exhibit which gave Mr. Shilo the grand prize has entries from 131 artists in 26 countries.
