Israeli President Shimon Peres is celebrating his 85th birthday with a party in the Negev Desert.
Peres, whose birthday was Aug. 2, chose to hold his official celebration on his Hebrew birthday. He planned to spend Thursday in the Negev in order to promote growth in the area.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner was scheduled to travel to Dimona, where the city council will hold a celebration, including a large birthday cake, according to Israel Radio.
Peres was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1934.
