Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon instructed the Shin Bet domestic security service to increase its monitoring of Jewish extremists in Hebron. The Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported that the directive came after a propane gas tank exploded in an Arab store in Hebron, an attack attributed to extremist elements. Hebron settlers said the extremists came from outside the community.
