Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon won Cabinet approval for Israeli withdrawals from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. Sunday’s vote carried 17-5, paving the way for implementation of Sharon’s withdrawal plan on July 20. But Sharon still faces stiff opposition by senior figures in his own Likud Party, including Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who voted against the plan, saying it has not been endorsed by referendum.
