Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak rejected calls for him to step aside and let former Prime Minister Shimon Peres run as the Labor Party’s candidate in the Feb. 6 election. Barak’s campaign took a hit when a former top aide, Haim Mendel-Shaked, said Peres has a better chance of beating opposition leader Ariel Sharon.
