Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said before an agreement with Syria is concluded, Israel “will have a better feeling of the readiness of both” the Clinton administration and the U.S. Congress to provide aid to support the deal. In an interview on CNN, Barak said he hopes members of Congress will support the peace process in a bipartisan manner. Meanwhile, five members of the Senate Appropriations Committee were in Israel to discuss the costs of a possible aid package and tour the Golan Heights.
