The Palestinians were shot dead early Thursday after being spotted near the boundary fence at Khan Younis in southern Gaza. There were no Israeli casualties.
Since seizing control of Gaza in June, Hamas has set up commando units that regularly probe Israeli border defenses. Israel has responded with stepped-up operations by its special forces on the Gaza periphery.
