Israel’s consul general in New York said he believes Israel’s decision to surround Yasser Arafat’s Ramallah compound was a “mistake.” The standoff at the compound has only given Arafat more attention than he deserves and it would have been better to ignore him and let him travel wherever he wants, Alon Pinkas said Monday at the United Jewish Communities’ Board of Trustees meeting in New York.
