Israel’s Law of Return should not be tightened, a leading official with the Jewish Agency for Israel said. Sallai Meridor said Nov. 28 that tightening the law, which currently recognizes as Jewish anybody with at least one Jewish grandparent, would “close the door on those who wish to be part of the Jewish people, particularly to immigrants from the former Soviet Union.”
