Israel’s Shin Bet opposed a leading politician’s plans to address Palestinian legislators in the West Bank. Responding to a Defense Ministry request for its opinion on the matter, the Shin Bet domestic security service said it cannot be responsible for anyone’s safety in Palestinian-controlled territory, the Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported. Officials close to Avraham Burg, the speaker of the Israeli Knesset, said he is prepared to go to Ramallah without bodyguards.
