It would be “unacceptable” for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, France’s prime minister told a World Jewish Congress gathering in Paris. Dominique de Villepin called for rapid adoption of a United Nations resolution imposing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, but did not respond to a request from European Jewish Congress President Pierre Besnainou to make Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called repeatedly for Israel’s destruction, persona non grata in Europe.
