Italy’s largest insurance company is facing a class-action lawsuit alleging that the firm is engaged in a deceptive scheme aimed at getting Holocaust survivors to give up their legal right to seek a settlement from the company. According to the complaint filed in a Los Angeles court, Assicurazioni Generali is sending survivors living in California a deceptive form letter that tries to lure recipients into dropping damage claims against Generali under the state’s Holocaust Victims Insurance Act.
