Sen. Jacob K. Javits urged the United Nations Security Council last night to act to cause Syria “to halt aggression by guerrilla activities against Israel.” Speaking at a dinner here sponsored by State of Israel Bonds, the New York Republican cited the “tragic incident” last Saturday when a jeep carrying six border policemen hit a Syrian mine, killing four of the Israelis and wounding two. Sen. Javits said he hoped also that U.N. Secretary General U Thant would “put the full weight of the truce machinery” of the U. N. behind the effort to bring a halt in the Syrian-backed guerrilla raids. Israel’s Foreign Minister Abba Eban also addressed the meeting.
