Jewish and Arab labor groups issued May Day manifestoes today appealing, among other things, for Arab-Jewish unity to develop the resources of the Middle East and raise the standard of living of its inhabitants.

The proclamation of the Histadruth, the Palestine Federation of Labor, expressed thanks for the assistance given to Jewish labor in Palestine by the workers in England and the United States, and appealed for similar aid from labor in Russia and the British dominions. The manifesto stressed the Jewish workers’ determination to speed the rescue of Jews in occupied Europe and to build a Jewish national home in Palestine

The Histadruth addressed an appeal to Arab workers in the Middle East to recognize the fact that Jewish achievements will raise labor standards in all the Arab countries. “Jewish workers are determined to march forward with their brethren in the Middle East,” the manifesto concludes.

Mishmar, organ of the Hashomer Hazair, the Palestine Socialist League, publishes both the Histadruth manifesto and one issued by Arab workers. The latter says that “our desire is great that the future of our country should guarantee freedom for all, but this is not realistic without cooperation between Arabs and Jews.”
