Maurice Sterne, nationally famous artist of New York City, who had entered three of his works in the 29th annual International Exhibition of Modern Painting, was awarded second honorable mention for his canvass, “High School Girl.” Sterne won this honor from a field of 236 artists from the United States and Europe who had submitted a total of 437 paintings which were shown at the Carnegie Institute galleries.
The Albert C. Lehman $2,000 prize, with purchase rights up to $10,000, went to the second prize winner, Alexander Brook, an American, for his painting, “Interior.” Bernard Karfiol was a member of the International Jury of Awards, as well as a member of the American Committee of Selection.
