Jewish Communist leaders from a number of Western countries urged the new Soviet Government to “correct” the Moscow policy of suppressing Jewish culture, and to intensify official efforts to combat anti-Semitism in the country, it was learned here today.
The Communist leaders, who came here to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Paris Yiddish Communist daily, Neie Presse, reportedly agreed at a meeting last Sunday that “there is something to correct” in the policy toward Jews in the Soviet Union.
(In Mexico City, Yaacov Hazan, a Mapam member of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, severely criticized the Soviet Union today for discrimination against Jews in the USSR. He voiced his criticism at a press conference.)
