The Jewish community here today Joined in the observance of the 80th birthday of King Gustav VI Adolf with a reception in honor of the occasion and the announcement that it had planted a forest in Israel in his honor.
A certificate citing the forest project in Israel was presented to the King in an audience here today by a delegation of Jewish communal leaders including Gunnar Josephson, chairman of the forest project; Fritz Hollander, president of the Stockholm Jewish community; Max Korngold, president of the Swedish Jewish National Fund; Hugo Vallentin, honorary president of the Swedish Zionist Federation and Chief Rabbi Kurt Wilhelm.
Speaking at a reception honoring the King’s birthday, “Rabbi Wilhelm declared that the Royal Family and the entire Swedish people were “inscribed in the book of Jewish history for giving a home to persecuted Jews.”
