The Jewish community of Geneva has dedicated a monument in its cemetery in Veyrier to the memory of Jewish men, women and children slaughtered by the Nazis. Veyrier is a French town just on the outskirts of Geneva.
The inaugural ceremony was held on the eve of Rosh Hashanah before a solemn gathering of several hundred persons who watched as the memorial stone was unveiled. Dr. Alexander Safran, chief rabbi of Geneva, and Francois Brunschwig, president of the Geneva Jewish Community, spoke at the ceremony.
The community erected a memorial two years ago to commemorate the Jewish martyrs. Placed in front of the synagogue in Geneva, it was defaced a few months ago by unidentified vandals.
