The agreement of the Western Powers to the establishment in Germany of an inter-governmental board, in which the West German Government would be represented, to review the cases of Nazi war criminals now serving sentences, came under attack today from the European executive of the World Jewish Congress.
The Congress warned that “those whose sentences will be re-examined include criminals of the worst type who instigated, directed or actively participated in the extermination of millions of victims of the anti-Jewish Nazi mania.”
It voiced protest against “any measure of demoralizing clemency to be applied to traitors of the human race who have persistently committed the gravest crimes against humanity” and appealed to the Allied Governments “to instruct their representatives on the board of review to exclude from the benefits of a policy of leniency those who perpetrated a crime which has no parallel in the history of mankind.”
