Defying the anti-Jewish laws, the French captain of a fire brigade in Paris has not only promoted his only Jewish corporal to the rank of a sergeant but also proclaimed him an “honorary Aryan”, it is reported in the Paris press today.
The Jewish corporal was slated for ouster as a result of the new laws in France prohibiting Jews from holding a state or municipal positions. The captain hoped that by promoting him to “honorary Aryanship” he would prevent the Jew from being ousted. Instead, the Paris pro-Nazi press suggests sarcastically today that the captain should be nominated an “honorary Jew.”
