The Jewish representatives in the municipality of Jerusalem, headed by Chaim Solomon, vice-mayor, will soon resign from their posts, it was foreshadowed here.
This action is intended to be a protest against the Jewish representatives failure to achieve the objects of their labors in the municipal government. They had sought, it was stated, to secure for the Hebrew language equal treatment with Arabic in the municipality to assure the employment of an equal number of Jewish and Arab officials and to provide for the employment of Jewish labor by the municipal government in the municipal works.
At a recent conference between the representatives and the National Council of Palestine Jewry, the Jerusalem Jewish Committee and the Agudath Israel, Mr. Solomon stated that the Jewish representatives have to admit failure. It was stated that the Acting High Commissioner, H. C. Luke, cautioned the Jewish representatives against resigning, as it is “easy to resign but difficult to mend matters later.”
