Effective measures designed to safeguard existing Jewish settlements in the Negev area of Palestine against Arab attach have been taken as a result of an agreement worked oat between Haganah and the Jewish National Fund, it was announced here today by Judge Morris Rothenberg, president of the J.N.F. in the United States.
A total of $9,200,000 was allocates by J.N.F. headquarters in Jerusalem for the defense program, which includes the setting up of additional colonies in the Negev to serve as link between established settlements and the extension of water pipelines to strategic points in the desert. The J.N.F. has been assigned total financial responsibility for all Negev undertakings in the near future, which includes the construction of a city.
