Two non-Jewish poets, W.H. Auden and Stephen Spender, and the non-Jewish sculptor Henry Moore have joined with pianist Artur Rubinstein and violinist Yehudi Menuhin in urging an emigration visa for the wife of a noted Soviet Jewish sculptor. The celebrities sent a joint letter to the Soviet ambassador here, asking him to convey their plea to the Kremlin.
They referred to 22-year-old Galina Zlotnik, whose husband, sculptor Aleksander Zlotnik, 31. is here in an effort to free her. He said Lord Janner, a Jewish member of Parliament, has taken on his case and had asked an unidentified British statesman to intervene with the Russians on her behalf. Zlotnik left Moscow recently at the insistence of his wife to live in Israel. She told him she hoped to be able to join him there soon.
