Jewish officials in Canada are disappointed that two youths who went on a vandalism spree against Jewish targets in Toronto were convicted without reference to the hate-crime aspects of their acts. The teenagers overturned headstones in a Jewish cemetery, painted graffiti on synagogue walls and damaged other Jewish property last spring, but they were convicted on five counts of simple mischief charges.
