Lt. David Sacknoff has just returned to the United States on a fifteen-day furlough, after having received the Air Medal and seven Oak Leaf Clusters for outstanding performance in North Africa.
Lt. Sacknoff was the pilot of the Flying Fortress, “Snow White,” which became famous some time ago when it enjoyed a miraculous escape after a raid over Axis-held territory. When the bomber returned safely to its base, inspection revealed that the Germans had hit her more than 500 times. Repairmen were amazed that the fortress was able to land in one piece. Lt. Sacknoff was commissioned after completing his Air Corps training at Turner Field, Ga., and was assigned to duty at Columbia Air Base, S. C. From there he was sent to North Africa.
