Jewish Policeman Killed in Arab Attack; Haifa Put Under Curfew

One Jewish supernumerary was killed and another was wounded today when attacked by Arabs while on duty near the Central Railway Station in Haifa. The authorities imposed curfew on Haifa.

A German Jewess slain in an attack on a bus near Haifa yesterday was identified as Elsa David, 51, wife of a physician and mother of seven children. A bomb was thrown into a synagogue in Tiberias, but failed to explode. Unconfirmed reports reached Jerusalem of a battle in the Ramallah zone between troops and a rebel Arab force led by Aref Abdul Razik.

Four British constables were convicted by a special session of the Court of Criminal Assize of unjustifiably killing an Arab prisoner assertedly attempting to escape and were sentenced by Chief Justice Harry H. Trusted to terms varying from a year on probation to three years’ imprisonment and fines.
