The Jewish pioneers who have arrived in the Bureya region from the Ukraine were given a warm welcome, states the “Tikhookeanskaia Zvezva” of Khabarovsk, the administrative centre of the area. The paper states that the central Government bodies in the Far East have done everything possible to facilitate the railway transportation of the Jewish migrants. At Irkutsk they were medically examined to prevent the inclusion of any sick persons among the settlers. The railway officials were told to give them every attention and assistance.
The paper complains of people in Siberia who are showing dissatisfaction with the Jewish migration movement and demands that strong measures be taken against them and that they should be replaced by persons who will further the settlement of this area.
A second Soviet paper, “Sovietskaya Sibir” of Novosibirsk states that the Soviet authorities in Siberia have taken measures to put a stop to the bureaucratism among some of the officials who have shown themselves slack in the work of facilitating the transport of the Jewish immigrants.
CORRECTION
A typographical error occurred in the report of the vote on election by referendum to the general membership at the convention of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in Boston. The proposal for a referendum was defeated by 134 votes to 56.
