The only Servicemen’s Center in Germany sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board opened today in this city, which is the hub of the greatest concentration of American military strength in Germany.
General Miles Reber, Commanding General of the Western Area Command, cut the tape across the doorway of the building, a commodious villa where the late General Patton lived for a time during the war. Its facilities include a lounge and a dining room, music room, voice-recording room, game room and dark room as well as a wring room and a library. Outdoors, a large garden and a luxurious patio overlooking the city beckon to visitors.
Army and Air Force wives, who are organized into a “Jewish Women’s Group,” served as hostesses during the housewarming reception. The number of Jewish GI’s and officers assigned in this area is estimated to run to 1,500.
