Local draft boards have been instructed to give “favorable consideration” to requests of Jewish young men not to be scheduled for physical examinations or induction into the armed services during Passover, the National Jewish Welfare Board announced today.

A communication from Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of the Selective Service System, to the JWB Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy gave Jewish registrants scheduled for induction or pre-induction examination the right to request deferment.
