The Jewish people of the world can give “hope to mankind, facing the terrifying prospect of self-destruction, ” Mrs. Benjamin Robinson, of Montreal, president of the International Council of Jewish Women, told the annual convention of the ICJW that convened here today for five days of discussions.
More than 500,000 Jewish women, from 19 countries, are represented at the convention by 130 delegates. Yugoslavia is represented at the convention for the first time in the organization’s history. Five Yugoslav Jewish women are here as observers.
“As Jews,” Mrs. Robinson told the delegates, “we can tell the world to have faith because we have survived horrors and have kept alive.” She paid particular tribute to Israel where, she said, “Jews demonstrate to all the world their faith in the future.” Most affiliates of the ICJW support educational work in Israel.
