Twenty-eight families from Morocco who arrived in Israel yesterday were in their new homes by last night preparing their children to go to school today, as the new Jewish Agency program for resettling immigrants without transition orientation went into high gear.
The 163 men, women and children were taken off the ship that had brought them from Marseilles and were placed in wood huts prepared for them at Haruvit, the first new settlement to go up in the Lachish development area on the Judean plateau. Within a few days the working members of the family will be given afforestation work on the hillsides surrounding the settlement.
Each Family has a hut with a half-dunam (one-eighth acre) of land around it on which will be grown some food. The Agency had prepared kitchen utensils and some household furniture for each family before it arrived at its new home. The medical clinic began functioning the moment the immigrants arrived, and a kindergarten and an elementary school opened their doors this morning.
The sixty-ninth kibbutz to be established by Hashomer Hatzair has been founded. The new kibbutz, named Hahorshim, will be headed by an Israel member of the movement.
