Jews in many European countries have a strong sense of insecurity, Saul Hayes, national executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress, told reporters today on his return from Paris where he represented the Congress on matters relating to the Peace Conference.

As an example, Hayes quoted the statement’s of Jewish leaders from Rumania and Hungary, who felt that peace treaty clauses assuring just treatment for Jews would be of little value without effective international guarantees.

He said that representatives of the Jewish organizations gathered in Paris took fully into consideration that conditions varied from country to country, and kept that in mind when submitting proposed provisions to the peace conferees. Canadian Jewish Congress representatives participated fully in the discussions conducted in Paris by Jewish groups.
