Jews in Vienna are not permitted to leave their homes for longer than one hour, during which they are required to do all their shopping and attend to the various formalities which they have to take up with the authorities and with Jewish relief institutions, it was reported here today.
The majority of the Jews in Vienna now depend entirely on relief, the report states. The Nazi authorities exercise strict control over the relief activities conducted by the Vienna Jewish community. They even fix the salaries of the employees in Jewish relief institutions.
Reports received here from Nazi-occupied Poland state that Nazi authorities in Warsaw have lifted the order prohibiting Jews to have on hand more than 2,000 zlotys in cash. At the same time the German press reaching here today reports that Kutno, one of the larger towns in Poland, which had a large Jewish population before the war, has now been “purified” of Jewish influence and is rapidly being “Germanized.” All Jews have had to move out of the city to a special ghetto quarter in the outskirts.
