The French National Relief campaign was inaugurated among the Jewish population by Chief Rabbi Issaye Schwartz today in a sermon at the Vichy Temple.
The Rabbi protested the French anti-Semitic legislation, charging it had struck a painful blow to the Jews wand was “not merited,” but appealed to the Jewish population to fulfill its duties as “men and Frenchmen.”
Simultaneously, the rabbi launched a campaign for assistance to those detained in camps. “French Jews must also fulfill their duty as Jews,” he said.
