News Brief

Jurist and lawyer Daniel Friedmann has been chosen as Israel’s next justice minister. The Cabinet will convene in a special session Tuesday night to approve the appointment by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who decided on Friedmann after consulting with senior jurists, and submit it Wednesday to the Knesset. Friedmann, a commercial lawyer who won the Israel Prize for law and is believed to favor reforming Israel’s legal system, would replace Haim Ramon, who stepped down last year after being indicted for sexual impropriety.
